Kama‘aina Kids and the Summer Food Service Program have teamed up to offer free breakfast and lunch to our island keiki at three different locations throughout this summer.
Summer means going hungry for many children statewide who receive free and reduced food through their school. We would like to see that change.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to participate in this program and see it as a way to give back to the communities in which we operate,” said Buffy Owens, Vice President of Kama‘aina Kids.
This collaborative fight against hunger kicked off June 14th and will continue through July 30th. Each child is served a nutritious and did we mention FREE breakfast from 7a.m.-8a.m. and the program continues with a wholesome lunch served from 11a.m-12p.m. We are offering these services to all children ages 18 and under at Laniakea YWCA, Kokokahi YWCA and now at the newly refurbished He‘eia State Park. All children must be accompanied by an adult and meals are first come first served so come early! This is an exciting program and we would like to serve as many children as possible so help us get the word out!
Families should also be on the lookout for the Kama‘aina Kids climbing wall and other forms of entertainment that will be making special trips to He‘eia State Park throughout the summer.
